Exceptional Weekend for Team Bahrain Victorious in Australia with Gold Medals and Podium Finishes
Team Bahrain Victorious continued its strong start to the 2026 season, making its mark across major triathlon races in Australia with a series of wins and podium finishes over an exceptional week.
American Taylor Knibb opened the team's campaign with a major win at the opening round of the T100 Gold Coast series, skillfully handling difficult swim conditions amid strong waves at Surfers Paradise beach. Despite exiting the 2km swim in ninth place, she quickly closed the gap during the 80km, eight-lap bike leg, before breaking away 30km from the finish with the fastest bike split, then holding her lead through the 18km run to secure first place by nearly a full minute.
At the Ironman 70.3 Geelong, British athlete Kat Matthews continued her strong form with back-to-back wins on the Ironman Pro Series, just two weeks after setting a course record at Ironman New Zealand. Matthews made up ground after the 1.9km swim before taking control early in the 90km bike leg, extending her lead to over three minutes ahead of the closing half-marathon, and holding her advantage all the way to the finish line.
On the men's side, Belgium's Jelle Geens took second place in his first race of the season, delivering a balanced performance across the swim, bike, and run an important tune-up ahead of his full season debut at Ironman Texas next month.
